Adrift

tree

There once was a time
I’d mastered deception
created a truth
that made sense to the lies

imagining frustration
I opened my eyes
completely preoccupied
three years had gone by

dull to the time
and numb to the touch
drifting to nowhere
unable to trust

I swam cross the ocean
till I sat on the cusp
looking over a future
through pain and disgust

and set to painting a past
as clean as tomorrow
while unable to forget

carrying the pain of today
and the strokes
that set me adrift
